According to the United States Census bureau, there are more than 160,000 gas stations in the United States. Ninety two percent of these stations operate as Convenience stores, where customers can buy everything from soup to nuts. With thousands of people coming and going in and out of the stations and the stores every day, it’s inevitable that accidents will occur. Here are some of the most common accidents that station and convenience stores should be on the lookout for:

• • Slip & Fall caused by cracked or uneven pavement, pooled gasoline, oil, poor water run-off and debris left in store aisles. Remember that restrooms are at risk with spilled water, soap and other fluids left on the floor.

• • Gasoline and Diesel Burns can result from pump handle leakage, hose leakage and gas sprays from faulty shutoff valves.

• • Vapor inhalation scorching occurs in improperly ventilated pumping areas or from vehicle carbon monoxide that drifts from repair bays as engines are running.

• • Faulty nozzle triggers have been known to cause lacerations when the trigger mechanism on the handle becomes sharp from wear.
• Fire can erupt when customers carelessly toss cigarettes on the pavement. Also be on the look out for faulty or exposed wiring or static electricity.
